BLAINE, Minn. – (May 19, 2016) – Discover Aviation Days will take place the first weekend in June at the Anoka County Blaine Airport. True to its name, the organizers of the two-day event hope that people of all ages can discover something new about aviation.
“It’s really designed to display and showcase all aspects of aviation,” said Craig Schiller of Discover Aviation Days.
“The event is probably the largest the free aviation event in at least the five state area. The last few years we’ve seen just over 15,000 people attend over the two-day show,” said Schiller
The Anoka County Blaine Airport has been has been in the community for decades and is recognized across the county as being home to a very diverse fleet of aircraft.

“The airport, because of its history and the type of airplanes that are on this airport — we have a huge variety, anywhere from corporate aviation to private owners who have vintage airplanes, World War II airplanes, general aviation and flight training. The airport itself was rated in the Air and Space Smithsonian Magazine, about six or seven years ago, as the fourth most unique airport in the country, and a lot of that has to do with the variety of airplanes,” said Schiller.
One of the highlights for many at Discover Aviation Days is a visit to the private collection of vintage planes in the Golden Wings Museum – a collection of planes that rarely goes on display to the general public.
In that collection you can see planes flown by Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh, also part of the collection is the first plane that NASA ever owned. Discover Aviation Days takes place on June 4-5 at the Anoka County – Blaine Airport.
