COON RAPIDS – The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of suspected drug overdoses, and they have a warning for anyone who takes medicine that is not prescribed for them or purchased at a pharmacy. At least four people have died in the month of May from suspected drug overdoses.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says, between May 8 and May 21, law enforcement agencies in Anoka County responded to the deaths of three people in which drug overdoses were suspected. On May 22, the Coon Rapids Police Department responded to two separate incidents of possible drug overdose involving two people. One died the other survived.
At the scene of each incident, the sheriff’s office says pills were found that were light colored, or light blue in color with the letter “M” bordered by a square box around the “M”. The sheriff’s office says similar pills around the country and elsewhere in Minnesota have been found to be tainted or counterfeit oxycodone pills. Some contained fentanyl. The pills that were found locally are undergoing forensic testing.
The sheriff’s office reminds people to take only medications that have been prescribed for you and that you purchase at the pharmacy.
The final causes of death for each case had not been determined.
