BLAINE, Minn. – (Nov. 8, 2018) – On Election Day, Minnesotans cast more votes in a midterm election than ever before and as a result, there are changes coming to local city councils, school boards, the county board and our state government.
Blaine will see two new city council members in: Jess Robertson and Richard Paul. Centerville is getting one new council member, Michelle Lakso. Brian Kirkham will be joining the Ham Lake Council, while Spring Lake Park and Lexington aren’t seeing any changes this year.
The Anoka County Board will have one new member, with Mandy Meisner the top vote-getter in that race. The Centennial School Board gets a new member in Tom Knisely and the district passed two levies as well.
At the state level, all of the constitutional officers, including Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor all went democrat, and the democrats took control of the state house as well, while the Republicans held onto control of the State Senate, through the one special election.
You can check out complete election results on the Secretary of State’s results page.
Also on Election Night, voters approved two Centennial School levies.
The levies were approved with the highest margin of success of the district has ever seen. About 20 percentage points on the operational levy, and about 15 points on the capital levy.
With the passage of the operational levy, the district won’t be talking about staff cuts, but instead about hiring more positions next year. As far as the capital work, the district will improve fine arts centers, the hockey arena, technology in classrooms, and the outdoor hallway at the high school that links the two buildings.
