BLAINE, Minn. – (Aug. 23, 2018) – Extra DWI enforcement will be on the roads statewide through the beginning of September. More than 300 law enforcement agencies are working together to get drunk drivers off the roads.
Typically, officers make about 450 DWI arrests over the Labor Day weekend, making it the third busiest holiday in terms of DWI arrests. More drunk driving arrests are made on Labor Day than either St. Patrick’s Day or New Year’s Eve.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is providing the overtime funds and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety is coordinating the extra enforcement and education effort.
