CIRLCLE PINES, Minn. – (Aug. 8, 2018) – Cryotherapy is a newer form of treatment in the therapy world that claims to help relieve anything from aches and pains to depression. You can usually find places in the city but about a month ago, a business owner Keith Moeller brought cryotherapy to the north metro suburbs.
“It’s healing through cold temperatures,” Moeller explained. “The temps can get down to about -250 standard.”
The machine uses nitrogen gas to get down to those frigid temperatures. Moeller said many clients come to relieve them of pain and inflammation. How does it work?
“People are in there for about three minutes,” Moeller said. “There’s a science behind it where once your body gets a certain temp, your brain tells you you’re in a hypothermia state so your blood pulls around your organs to protect it because the need to be at 98 degrees, once you stand out and start warming up, your blood rushes back to your extremities filled with nutrients, it’s oxygenated, your endorphins are flying your metabolism’s spiked it’s just, pretty crazy, it’s a euphoric feeling is what most people say.”
Moeller decided to open the business after seeing cryotherapy at his full time job at Lifetime Fitness.
“I was at the St. Louis Park location and they were putting one in there so I got to talking to the consultant and he just kind of game me the history of what it is and what it does and I thought hey this sounds like something I would love to do because I love helping people,” he said. “I think the results that people are having is what’s bringing us the business that we have.”
The location also offers facials using the same nitrogen gas in a different machine that sprays the cold mist on your face for ten minutes.
“It closes pores, tightens your skin, increases collagen up to 500 percent, blood flow, helps with acne, anti-aging, it’s amazing.” he said.
Moeller hopes to turn his business into a one stop shop for all things recovery.
“So we’re going to offer other services as well other than just cryotherapy, we’re going to have sports specific injury specific massage, we’re going to have cupping, we’d like to add some acupuncture, the NormaTec boots it’s a compression boot that helps with circulation, you know if you’re feeling a little bit of pain and you can’t perform at your optimal level, you need to recovery properly and this is you know three minutes, it’s like ice on steroids, it’s pretty amazing,” he said.
Moeller did mention that it may not be the best form of treatment for people with heart issues, but says it’s safe for all others, and clients start to see improvement after consistent visits two to three times a week.
