“So far, I think we have at least 5,000 items here. It’s growing rapidly. Every day I think we bring more books by,” said Judy Vermeulen, president of the Friends of the Anoka County Library.
The money raised at the book sale will be put back to work in county libraries through the regular work of the Friends of the Library – work that includes the Library’s summer reading program, books clubs in a bag, and even the bike repair stations in front of branch libraries.
This will be their first ever book sale. The Friends are taking donations, and will continue to take donations through early November. If you have books you would like to pass on, the Friends of the Library would be happy to take them.

The group is not accepting encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines or damaged books. But, hard covers and paperbacks are great, and so are CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and games as well.
Beyond donations from the community, the Friends are also collecting books that have been weeded out from collections at the county’s branch libraries.
“Those books are still in excellent condition and they are being weeded out of the library and given to us. There are some books that look brand new.”
Ultimately, they hope to have about 10,000 items at the sale.
The Friends welcome donations and volunteers to help sort and transport the materials and volunteers to help them run the sale. If you’d like to get involved or donate, you can reach out to the friends directly by sending an email to friendsofanokacolib@gmail.com.
