Goony Golf opened in the mid-1970s and was later purchased by Pat Hovanetz and her husband. Pat’s husband passed away in 2011, leaving Hovanetz the sole owner of the business. “It’s too much repair and maintenance for me to keep up with, and I want to be fully retired,” Hovanetz said. For a time, Goony Golf had a waterslide and was renamed to Spring Lake Park Amusement Park. Later, Pat and her husband decided to add a third more challenging course in place of the waterslide because they struggled to find an insurance company to insure them. The mini-golf course was then renamed back to Goony Golf. It’s easy and fun to deal with people who …. are going to have fun.” Nonetheless, Hovanetz is excited for the new senior housing that will be built in its place. During Tower Days in early June, Goony Golf will host their final mini-golf tournament. The site will remain open until its finally days in July, welcoming people of all ages to enjoy one last round of fun.
