In Grown Ups 2 Adam Sandler is back with a familiar cast of characters featuring: Kevin James, David Spade, and Chris Rock. The cast is filled out by about 10 other Saturday Night Live alums and “actors” like Shaquille O’Neal and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. For some reason more accomplished actors, Steve Buscemi, Maria Bello, and Selma Hayek also signed up for this train wreck.
Grown Ups 2 has no story arc so I won’t waste your time trying to give you a plot summary. Nearly every joke in Grown Ups 2 comes back to three of Sandler’s favorite comedy crutches: poop, farts, and vomit. To me that is just not funny. When one of the main characters claim to fame, and really only joke, is his ability to burp, sneeze, and fart in one sequence you know you are in for a long and frustrating 100 minutes in the theatre.
Grown Ups 2 is just like any other Sandler comedy of the last decade – in a word – horrible. Sandler, who also co-wrote and produced Grown Ups 2 seems to have stopped caring about the quality of his product knowing that his name will still bring in a crowd. Hopefully it won’t take too many more films like Grown Ups 2 for Sandler’s audience to finally stop giving one more chance. As a fan of some of Sandler’s early films like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore I would like to see him just stop making movies. At this point that would be better than him continuing to put forth the effort that results in movies like Grown Ups 2.
This movie is not for kids and parents and adults do yourself a favor and stay away. That is what any logical grown up would do.
