“We have so much going on that day that people can either watch or get involved in,” said Shana Schmitz of the Snowbowl Committee.
The events include a medallion hunt that starts early in the week, ice fishing contest, broomball tournament, business expo, craft extravaganza, dog pull, sledding, silent auction, wagon rides, kids games and the very popular snow sculpture contest, where participants of all ages turn a block of snow in a work of art.
“It’s amazing,” said Schmitz. “All of a sudden they turn it into Chewbacca, or there was this wonderful fairy queen with her flowing dress.”
There is also a contest that everyone can participate in. A large metal snowbowl sculpture will be on the ice, and everyone gets to put in a guess as to how long into the spring it will stay above water. The winner of that contest will get a $500 prize.
