COON RAPIDS – After years of construction, the Hanson Boulevard overpass is Coon Rapids is complete and the road is open to traffic.
More than 80 trains can travel on the tracks each day, along with more than 12,000 vehicles, making it one of the busiest train crossings in the state before the bridge was built.
At a ribbon cutting on Aug. 4, local leaders talked about what this will mean for emergency responders.
“This new overpass will greatly mitigate that obstacle and improve response times by minutes. Not seconds. Minutes,” said Anoka County Board chair Scott Schulte.
This project cost about $25 million with half of the money coming from the 2017 bonding bill.
