RAMSEY, Minn. – Anoka County is now $10 million closer to renovating the intersection of Highway 10 and Armstrong Boulevard in Ramsey. The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently approved a $10 million grant in support of the $35 million project.
Improvements made to the road include building an interchange that includes a grade separation from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks. It will also provide alternative routes for bikers and pedestrians crossing the busy highway. The new grant means the project is just $9 million shy of its total cost. The Counties Transit Improvement Board has committed to contributing $10 million to the overpass, while Ramsey has already put $4 million toward the project, and Anoka County has contributed an additional $2 million.
The county plans to request state bonding money to cover the rest of the cost, and is also seeking a federal transportation grant. If all goes as planned, construction will begin in 2015.
