HAM LAKE, Minn. – (Oct. 18, 2018) – Road construction on Highway 65 through Ham Lake has been busy this summer and the construction is wrapping up at one intersection.
157th Ave. opened to traffic this week featuring the first reduced conflict intersection in the area. MnDOT said this style of intersection can reduce the number of places that crashes can happen, the increases in places to turn reduce the likelihood of crashes, decrease wait time at intersections and more cars can move through more quickly.
Drivers will no longer be able to take a left from 157th Ave. but will have to take a right, drive a few hundred feet, and then take a U-turn to get to their intended direction. Next summer, MnDOT will be building similar intersections at 143rd, 153rd, and 181st Avenues, along with a reduced conflict intersection with signals at Viking Blvd in East Bethel.
Before the end of the month, MnDOT also hopes to wrap up turn lane extensions on Highway 65 through East Bethel, Ham Lake, Blaine and Spring Lake Park.
