Blaien, Minn. – (May 26, 2016) – Motorists may encounter delays beginning Sunday evening, May 22 as microsurfacing begins on nearly 17 miles of Highway 65 between Ramsey County Road 10 in Mounds View and 217th Avenue in East Bethel.
During the three-week project, the southbound roadway will be reduced to a single lane from 7 p.m. through 6 a.m. Mondays through Fridays with some weekend work possible. During the work, motorists will encounter single lane traffic and cross streets will be closed while there is work nearby.
Major work is expected to be completed by mid-June. There will be occasional daytime lane closures through the end of July for final striping.
Drivers should use alternate routes to avoid congestion.
Microsurfacing is the application of a liquid mixture of asphalt, cement, gravel and water. The thin coating is applied to newer roadways to prevent harmful ultraviolet rays from drying out and damaging the surface of the roadway in addition to sealing the pavement from weather and the wear and tear of daily traffic.
It extends pavement life at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing while providing smoother and more reliable transportation for Twin Cities’ travelers.
