ANOKA, Minn. – (Jan. 22, 2015) – A non-profit that helps homeless youth has reached its $1 million fundraising goal. With those funds, Hope 4 Youth plans on opening a new homeless shelter in the north metro area.
Their fundraising coordinator launched the campaign in November and vowed to sleep outside if the goal was not met by January.
Hope 4 Youth opened in Anoka in March, 2013. Their current space offers hot meals and storage but is only open for five hours a day.
The new space will be an overnight shelter and hopes to provide 20 beds. Although the initial fundraising goal was met, organizers say it’s only a starting point to operate an overnight shelter. Currently, there are about 150 documented homeless youth in the north metro suburbs.
The foundation hopes to open the shelter by the end of this year.
