MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – (March 30, 2017) –Southern Anoka Community Assistance or SACA held their annual Hops for Hunger fundraiser at the end of March. The event brings together dozens of craft breweries for a night of beer tasting and community involvement.
“You bring people together for a good time but it’s for a really good cause so that just makes it all the better. We shouldn’t have this problem with people being hungry in this country but we do so if we can have a little fun doing it lets do it,” said SACA manager Dave Rudolph.
SACA has many programs including a food shelf, a thrift store and a food delivery service for seniors. SACA helps struggling members of the community by removing the burden of deciding between food and other necessities.
“There’s a lot of seniors that are sometimes the difference between having enough money to take their medication or having enough food on the table. Or people that are working but their job just doesn’t pay enough so there is a lot of reasons why people come there,” said Rudolph.
This was the fifth year of Hops for Hunger and in the first four years the event has raised enough money for SACA to purchase 500,000 pounds of food. Every dollar helps and events like Hops for Hunger are designed to give people an easy way to engage in helping those in need.
“Be a part of the community, come to events like this, donate a little food, donate some money, something for the thrift store we’ve got, it all helps,” said Rudolph.
If you missed Hops for Hunger this year they already have a date for next years event. It will be held on Saturday March 31, 2018. So mark your calendar now.
