(LINO LAKES) – Prosecutors say the person who shot and killed a man inside a home in Lino Lakes on Thursday afternoon left his gun at the scene of the crime, and that’s how officers were able to catch him.
According to a press release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a home on West Shadow Lake Drive just before 3:00 p.m. after the owner of the home saw a man and a woman leaving out the front door and his son mortally wounded in the basement of the home. Despite life-saving efforts by medics and officers, the man died on the scene.
Late Friday afternoon, officers identified the victim as 22-year-old Karl Henderson of Lino Lakes.
Sunday, officers arrested 43-year-old Nicholas Zielinski in connection with the crime. He is booked into the Anoka County Jail on a charge of 2nd degree murder.
Officers said they found a handgun at the scene near Henderson’s body that had DNA that matched Zielinski’s, and his address is the same as a woman to whom a vehicle suspected in the crime is registered.
The Lino Lakes Police Department, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
