BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 16, 2020) – January is National Action Radon month. Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that can be present in your home. It is the leading environmental cause of cancer deaths in the United States, and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. It occurs naturally in Minnesota soils, and more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths are attributed to radon each year in the U.S.
A radon test is the only way to know how much radon is in your home. If the test comes back with an elevated radon level, there are mitigation systems that can reduce radon exposure.
Radon test kits are available at hardware stores, and Anoka County sells discounted radon test kits for $10.
