ANOKA, Minn. – (May 14, 2015) – As a part of National Police Week, the Anoka County Government Center hosted the annual law enforcement memorial service this week. Officers from every department in the county joined together to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty.
This was an opportunity to not just remember officers who lost their lives on the job, but to carry an overall message of support and encouragement to those who serve everyday.
Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart spoke and sent a message of unity with the public going forward. “We need to come together and those who seek to demoralize our protectors will not break the resolve of America’s law enforcement. While hate mongers and society’s miscreants choose to simplify the issues by damning America’s law enforcement, these same men and women who protect us still get up everyday, put on their shields and go out and protect and serve according to their oaths,” said Stuart.
The job of the law enforcement can be dangerous, and this event was a tribute to those who have given their life to serve the public. It is also a reminder that those who have served will not be forgotten.
“Being willing to put yourself in danger to protect others and being willing to lay down your own life for another. It’s not a job, it is a calling and for those who accept that call, thank you,” said Stuart.
Throughout the history of Anoka County, seven officers have died in the line of duty.
