BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 7, 2016) – An upcoming change in an ordinance will have dog owners putting their pets on leashes for walks in Blaine. Going into effect Jan.11, dog owners will be required to put their dogs on leashes and keep them under a person’s control if they are off the dog owner’s property.
The change was made due to the vagueness of the previous ordinance which allowed for unleashed dogs if they were under the owners voice command.
This will not affect anything on personal property.
The change was simply a safety measure supported by the police department. The city plans to take active educational measures in the spring when more dog owners will be out at parks.
