LEXINGTON – The next gubernatorial election in Minnesota more than 20 months away, but the first Republican has officially announced his candidacy.
Lexington Mayor Mike Murphy will be seeking the party’s nomination.
Murphy was originally elected to Lexington City Council as a write-in candidate in 2016. He was appointed mayor in 2019 to fill the remainder of the term held by resigning Mayor Mark Kurth. Murphy was then elected in 2020 to a four year term as the city’s mayor. He was unopposed on the ballot.
