“Acting is super fun,” Massoglia said. “Love it.” Massoglia has been acting since he was 10 and has bounced between Tinsel town and the Twin Towns for years. Said Massoglia: “I would go out to LA for three months, during what they call pilot season, which is a time where they basically cast for all the new TV shows.” Once Massoglia got a break, he parlayed that into multiple movie roles.
“The biggest one I did was a universal feature film called, Cirque de Freak,” Massoglia said. “I was the lead in that. I’ve done independent movies, westerns…The two most recent projects I worked on, one was called Reagan which is a bio pic starring Dennis Quaid about Ronald Reagan, which will be really cool. Then the other one was a local Minnesota production called My Seven Grandmas with comedian Jeff Allen.”
Get ready for rejection
Being an actor means dealing with rejection. The profession is ultra-competitive and getting a Hollywood gig is challenging.
“There’s just so much that goes into getting a job,” Massoglia said…”It is tough. I think they say you have to do like 2000 auditions before you get one job. That’s like the average.?
From Denzell Washington to Mel Gibson, Massoglia has been around some marquis names.
“Nicole Kidman,” Massoglia said. “Met her. I worked with a couple Oscar winners, Ken Watanabe, Selma Hyatt, John C. Reilly.”
Massoglia has the utmost respect for the superstars of the silver screen.
Said Massoglia: “Loved Yellowstone with Kevin Costner.”
Down-to-earth guy
In Hollywood there is plenty of glitz and glamour, but the down-to-earth Massoglia did not get sucked up into that scene.
“Not really,” Massoglia said. “I was always more of a Minnesota guy. I think there’s a certain lure to LA. You see some nice cars and famous people might be at the stop light and whatnot.”
One perk for Massoglia is getting residuals from the many flicks he has appeared in.
“Sometimes you get a check for a couple hundred bucks,” Massoglia said. “I have gotten a check for as low as one cent.”
According to Massoglia there are some similarities to being an actor and a politician.
“When I was campaigning people would say all kinds of stupid stuff about you,” Massoglia said. “You get that in acting too. You get the people like, ‘oh my gosh I love you this is awesome’ and then you get the people like, ‘you suck. I hate that movie…’ You’ve got to have your energy up right? When you’re out engaging with people you want to be high energy. You want to connect with them.”
Massoglia has been on the Blaine City Council since 2020 and is now in the digital marketing business
