LINO LAKES, Minn. – (Aug. 6, 2015) – Next weekend, Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16, you can join the Lino Lakes community in celebrating Blue Heron Days. This year will include new and exciting events, including a wooden boat, car and motorcycle show at the American Legion.
“And then at the American Legion, they are trying to put together a car, boat, and motorcycle show. So, people can call the American Legion for more information about how to register for that. And, that’s on Saturday as well.”, said Tanya Mozingo.
Another change the city will see this year is the Shawn Silvera 5k is back in Lino Lakes.
“This year being the tenth anniversary of the Shawn Silvera run, we brought it back to Lino Lakes which is a very exciting thing for us to have back and to honor Shawn’s memory. So, we’re really excited to see all the runners out. We have got a beautiful course laid out and I know a lot of hard work and details have been put into that.”
A movie in the park, the petting zoo, bounce inflatables, and of course the parade are just a few of the fun events included in this year’s festival.
“The parade is going to be awesome. We have new acts this year. We’ve got a drum line coming, we’ve got a clown, we’ve got a bunch of community sports teams and different businesses. We have lots of candy and other free things that will be thrown out for participants”
Another popular event every year is the annual medallion hunt that includes a cash prize.
“We have a medallion that we will hide throughout the city, and starting on August 10, we will be posting the clues on the Blue Heron Facebook page. So people can go on, they are going to be posted at 9 a.m. and if they find the medallion, they can bring it into City Hall during business hours. We have a $200 Visa gift card for the person who finds it.”
