LINO LAKES, Minn. – (Aug. 11, 2016) – This week, 150 soon-to-be fourth graders gathered at Blue Heron Elementary School for a day-long safety camp that focused on several different safety aspects that are relevant to children.
“Our morning consists of electrical safety, a safe escape house for fire safety, and also water safety,” said Lino Lakes Police Department Captain Wayne Wegener Jr. “In the afternoon we will have safety courses related to bike safety, head trauma and injury, poison control comes in and does a course.”
“We want to make sure our kids stay safe, but it also gives us an opportunity to connect with the kids and throughout the day the kids have no idea they are with a police officer or a firefighter.”
Safety camps are held in many cities in the area throughout the summer.
