Reinert, whose father, Vern was mayor before him and who served on Lino Lakes City Council since 2000 told North Metro TV in an exclusive interview that he will run for the seat in the special election that was created when Sivarajah was appointed as the new county administrator.
The official filing doesn’t open until July 30, but Reinert has already created a website about his campaign with several web addresses redirecting to it.
“I’d really miss being mayor,” Reinert told North Metro TV. “But, at the same time, going from an $11 million budget to a $300 million budget, and a lot of the things the county board does are the same things the city council does–you’re taking care of those transportation needs and public safety, public works, and so it’s kind of a parallel position.”
If more than two people file to run in the special election, the primary will be on Election Day, November 3 and the special election will follow in February. If only two or fewer file, the election will be on Election Day.
