(LINO LAKES – May 26, 2022) – It was a day many in one part of the North Metro had been waiting more than two years for.
The City of Lino Lakes officially opened its Rookery Activity Center on Monday, May 23. It is housed in the same building that YMCA of the North operated for more than a decade, before it decided to abandon it after its initial COVID-19 shutdown in early 2020.
“It’s so exciting,” said Rookery Activity Center Director Lisa Lamey. “There’s been so much work and so much build-up between all of the city staff and our Rookery staff. It’s great to see everybody here in the facility. It’s really exciting.”
The Rookery is open Monday – Friday 5:00am – 10:00pm, and Saturday-Sunday 6:00am – 8:00pm.
“We found the people that have applied for jobs are excited to see this back open (and) being in their community,” said Lamey. “We’ve hired a number of high school students who, as kids, maybe learned to swim in the pool or came here as kids and now they think it’s really cool to be back and working here.”
The city may wait to have an official grand opening celebration at a later date, Lamey said.
