ANOKA, Minn. – (May 19, 2016) – This week, law enforcement officers and the public gathered together at the Anoka County Government Center for the annual law enforcement memorial service.
Sheriff Stuart believes events like this give the community a chance to learn about those who swear to protect & serve, and to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their community.
“Today we come together with local law enforcement, with the community to really say, ‘We will remember. We appreciate your sacrifice, and that we’re always going to take the time to pause and reflect on what’s been done on our behalf’,” said Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart.
The families of Anoka County’s fallen officers are invited to participate in the memorial service, and many show up year after year to keep the memory of their loved one alive.
“I think it means a lot to the families,” said Stuart. “Whether their family was taken from them in the past year or it happened decades ago it’s an opportunity to remind them that when we say ‘we will remember’ we really will remember and we truly do honor them and their sacrifice.”
Seven law enforcement officers in Anoka County have been killed in the line of duty in the last 59 years. Nationwide 124 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2015.
