BLAINE, Minn. – (Oct. 29, 2015) – Minnesota students are getting involved in community service in record numbers according to a new report released this week by WE Day and WE Schools. Their are 540 Minnesota schools participating in WE Schools, a year-long, service-based educational program providing educators and students with curriculum, educational resources, and a full calendar of action campaign ideas to help connect schools with volunteering opportunities.
The data shows over 197,00 youth are engaged in service programs. Participants volunteered 695,000 hours for local and global causes. Students raised $836,000 in support of local and global organizations and 180,000 pounds of food were collected and donated to local food shelves. All figures were up significantly from the 2013-2014 school year.
Nationwide, over 2,500 different organizations have benefited from the actions of WE Schools including Toys for Tots, Second Harvest Heartland, and UNICEF.
