LOCAL TEACHER BECOMES CHILDREN’S AUTHOR

HAM LAKE, Minn. – (Feb. 1, 2018 ) – Stacy Bauer is a teacher at McKinley Elementary in Ham Lake.

“I’ve always loved to write,” says Bauer. “I started writing when I was seven.”

As she grew up, she realized that she also loved to teach. She went to college, got a degree and started teaching. She taught middle school math in Columbia Heights, before moving to McKinley Elementary school where she most recently taught Kindergarten.

Last school year, she decided to take a leave of absence from teaching, and write her first children’s book. It is about some of the funny things her kids have done through the years.

“One of the funniest things my daughter started doing was sneaking treats,” says Bauer, who once found her three year old covered in ice cream hiding in the playroom.

“I love books with a message, since I’m a teacher and a mom. The message is if you sneak a lot of treats you get cavities. At her first appointment she had four cavities, and I was horrified.”

Every scene in “Cami the Kangaroo Has Too Many Sweets!” is based on a real life experience in their home. The cavities are a part of the story too.

As she’s getting ready to publish, Bauer turned to Kickstarter to get some initial funding in place. And the pledges she has seen in just the first few days are even better than she had hoped.

“I have so many supportive family and friends,” says Bauer. “It’s been overwhelming and  humbling how much support I’ve had.”

Once this book is published, she hopes to be able to tell more stories about what happens in her family.

“I’m hoping to make it into a series.”

Ultimately, it’s about doing something she loves, while also finding ways to teach both in the classroom, and at home.

“I’m going to be teaching again in the future,” says Bauer. “I just love writing and I love teaching and I’m just blessed that I can do them both.”
