Ryan, who retired in 2020, received the C.C. Ludwig Award, named for the organization’s former executive director. It’s been given for decades to individuals judged by their outstanding service, vision, statesmanship, and commitment to public good, according to Centerville Mayor D. Love, who is president of the league this year.
He presented the award to Ryan at the August 16th Blaine City Council meeting.
Ryan, who served 34 years on council, including 24 as mayor, thanked those in attendance.
“We did sensible things and we were always surrounded by good council members and good staff,” said Ryan. “By the time (issues) get to elected officials, (they’ve) been filtered about five times and not everybody’s always happy with what you do, but you still know you’re going to make the decision with the information you have.”
