BLAINE, Minn. – For many, Valentine’s Day is a time to spoil their loved ones. For some local businesses Valentine’s Day is crucial to their bottom line. Many stores see a boost in sales around Valentine’s Day but no one will be as busy over the next week as your local florist. “On Valentine’s Day alone we run over 1,000 people through the store” said Tim Duecker owner of Flowerama in Blaine.
Tim plans to bring in as many as 15 employees at any given time on Valentine’s Day. He is also bringing in a refrigerated truck to help house the thousands of flowers that he expects to go through. “We go through anywhere from 3,500 to 5,000 stems of roses a week. We will go through 15,000 to 16,000 stems of roses in a three day period next week.”
Tim knows the importance of Valentine’s Day for his business. His planning began months ago and he has committed substantial resources to ensure his customers can put a smile of the face of their, someone special. “This is our big big holiday…is you are averaging 30, 40, or 50 people a day and then you jump to 800, 900, 1,000 you can see what that would mean but there is a lot that goes into it in terms of cost” said Duecker.
Tim also has some tips for you and reminds you that Valentine’s Day is a fun holiday and not meant to be a chore. “Order early…go see you local florist in person…and give them an opportunity to do what they do best. Have some fun with it; look for something different than roses.”
Local flowers shops like the Flowerama have become a one stop destination for all your Valentine’s Day needs. Tim concluded “you’re going to be able to get it all done here.”
