BLAINE, Minn. – (Dec. 8, 2016) – A man is in the hospital after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident near Northtown Mall last weekend.
Bob Johnson, 56, was severely injured while crossing the intersection on 85th Avenue and University Avenue while the walk sign was on. Johnson was walking home after picking up a pizza at nearby Old Chicago.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the red light, and after Johnson was stuck he had to crawl to his backpack that landed 20 feet away to get to his cell phone to call 911. Johnson’s leg, ankle, and pelvis were shattered in the incident. He is now at HCMC and has a long road to recovery.
Blaine police are currently investigating and the Johnson family urges anyone who may have a tip on the suspect to reach out to police. Johnson described the vehicle as an older sedan with one headlight and front end damage.
