“Oh absolutely,” said Anoka County Commissioner Mandy Meisner. “The whole entire day was like a pinch me moment. I think everyone felt that way.” Seeing President Biden in her hometown of Fridley was surreal for Meisner. “Being put on the map was really incredible,” Meisner said.
Meisner was one of the fortunate few to be inside the Cummins power generation building when Biden shook hands, mingled and gave his speech.
“It was fantastic,” Meisner said. “As you can imagine, the energy there was over the top. Everyone was excited.”
Political pinnacle
There were long lines to get into Cummins and the facility was packed. But for Meisner the wait was worth it because she had a brief visit with the President of the US.
“It was probably about like a minute or two,” Meisner said. “So very limited, but I will take that. He was very generous to come up to the crowd and be shaking hands…We did have a moment. I was wearing my name tag – Mandy Meisner, Anoka County Commissioner. He looked at me and he said, ‘I was a County Commissioner once. Thank you for all of your work.’ That was great.”
Being in the same room with President Biden was the pinnacle of Meisner’s political career.
“I would say absolutely,” Meisner said. “Professionally it was definitely near the top.
According to Meisner, this isn’t the first time a President has come to Fridley. A couple decades ago George W. Bush was in the city.
