“I still answer calls. I still carry a pager,” said Krueger. “The responding with the guys, it’s problem solving. You’re dealing with people who aren’t in a good situation often, and you try to make it better.”
“I’m the only full-time paid position on the fire department. I have roughly 35-36 volunteers right now that live in the community.”
While working as the fire chief, the previous city administrator, Doris Nivala, began phased retirement that moved into a complete retirement. Krueger began talking with her about her job, and if he could help. As she phased out of city administration, Krueger began taking on her roles.
So, now as Fire Chief and acting as City Administrator, Krueger says he has learned a lot, and still enjoys his work.
“It’s been a lot of fun. I enjoy coming to work.”
