BLAINE, Minn — Soon libraries across Anoka County will be filled with people who are not sitting quietly and reading or researching. In what has become an annual tradition, the library is bringing in musicians, artists, storytellers for demonstrations and hands-on activities during the day they call “Live at the Library.”
“It’s going to be a full day of activities,” says Library Youth Services Manager Maggie Snow.
On June 9, from 10:00am – 2:00pm, each of the nine libraries in Anoka County will be hosting different artists, musicians, and entertainers who will be showcasing different arts.
This is the third annual “Live at the Library” and this year’s event will feature activities not seen in prior years. There will be a number of hands-on activities including: Explore Polymer Clay Art, Make Your Own Pop-Up Cards, Fold Book Sculptures, Rock Painting, Make and Take a Clay Fish, Make and Take a Paper Robot and more.
This year the Minnesota Historical Society will also be involved. They are bringing three different activities to the Mississippi Branch Library in Fridley. One is Portraits of Us, where participants will get their family photo taken by a professional photographer and take it home in a frame. The Historical Society will also be holding a class on making your own family tree, and teaching people how to preserve family treasures.
