“It’s a 49 acre parcel that historically the NSC has used for a lot of our bigger tournaments that will spill over onto these fields for tournaments like USA Cup,” said National Sports Center chief communications officer Barclay Kruse. “It’s been leased by the city of Blaine from the Metropolitan Airports Commission and now the National Sports Center has taken over that lease. It’s a 30 year long term lease.”
“It preserves what we think is the highest and best use of this land which is for recreational use for golf, softball, any other field sport,” said Kruse.
Keeping the land was a priority of the sports commission, and with the long-term deal in place, they are now able to move forward with their field use plans.
“The Blaine Soccer Club as been a prime user of these fields and will continue to be so. Almost every evening people that are old timers have known you can see kids playing and that will continue,” said Kruse.
The fields will be open for renting to other groups as well.
