Plans to build veteran housing on part of the old Anoka State Hospital are starting to develop. Boarded up buildings that were once a home for the mentally ill will be transformed into 33 units for veterans if the plans go through. The modern apartments would be built inside the historic asylum cottages by revamping them into modern apartments.
The project would cost about $11.5 million to complete, or $330,000 per apartment. If the plan goes through, construction on the property would begin next summer.
