ANOKA COUNTY – (March 8, 2018) – It is only March, but one race for local office in Anoka County is starting to heat up. Jim Kordiak announced that he would not be seeking another term on the Anoka County Board, that left the District 4 seat open for the first time in decades. In fact, the Kordiak family has held this seat for the last 64 years: first Albert Kordiak and now Jim.
Two candidates have publicly announced their intention to run for the seat. Sean Broom is a Columbia Heights resident and current public policy director for the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. Broom has previously run for a seat on the Columbia Heights city council but was not elected.
Local activist and Fridley resident Mandy Meisner has also announced her candidacy. Meisner is currently the community relations manager with the North Metro Mayors Association. This will be Meisner’s first run for public office. The official filing period for this seat will open in May.
The District 4 seat represents Columbia Heights, Hilltop, Fridley and a portion of Spring Lake Park.
