ST. PAUL, Minn. – (March 1, 2018) – According to a new report from the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota hospitals had a slight increase in the number of preventable errors in 2017.
The state requires hospitals to report data on preventable errors, which are also known as adverse effects. These could range from a serious medication error to performing surgery on the wrong part of the body.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester had the highest number of adverse effects, with 39 reported. Locally, we are doing much better. Mercy Hospital in Fridley had 5 adverse effects and Mercy in Coon Rapids had six adverse effects in all of 2017.
So far in 2018, Mercy hospital has a total of four reported incidents. The complete report is available on the Minnesota Department of Health Website.
