BLAINE, Minn. – (June 18, 2015) – The Anoka County Blaine Airport will soon be getting some needed safety upgrades. Thanks in part to a nearly $400,000 federal grant taxiway lighting will be installed for the first time and signage will receive new reflective material. The taxiway lighting, which makes it easier for pilots to see a taxiway from the air, will be installed on one taxiway at the airport.
The new reflective material will help make signage at the airport easier to read at night. The Anoka County Blaine Airport is seen a dramatic increase in traffic in the first half of 2015. Takeoffs and landings have increase by 30 percent from the previous year and May was the busiest month in the last five years. The grants will cover all the construction costs and the Metropolitan Airports Commission will cover all design costs.
