BLAINE, Minn. (June 1, 2017) Following a year of design work and location negotiations, Spring Lake Park Schools broke ground last week on their newest elementary school which will be built at the National Sports Center.
The construction of the new school was approved by district residents through a bond referendum in April 2016, and Superintendent of Spring Lake Park Schools Dr. Jeff Ronneberg said the school will be open in September of 2018.
“Its great visibility for our school district being at the National Sports Center…most importantly it’s just the endless possibilities for partnerships with the National Sports Center,” Ronneberg said.
In addition, the district will not have to build additional fields because they will be allowed to use the fields at the National Sports Center. Also, a new 300 space parking lot will be built to accommodate for the lost spaces due to the new school being built.
It has been a long journey to reach this point and Ronneberg is thankful for everyone who has helped along the way.
“There have been so many people who have been integral to making this happen…from the National Sports Center, the city, parents and community members, [and] to our own school district staff…it’s easily in the hundreds of people,” he said.
During construction, all vehicles must enter off of 105th Avenue because the entrances to the National Sports Center off of Davenport Street are closed
