SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. – (Dec. 15, 2016) – The Spring Lake Park City Council has approved zoning changes for the former Goony Golf area on County Road 10, clearing the way for a 194-unit senior apartment building.
The four-story building still needs to go through additional approvals and certifications before construction can begin next summer. The project is expected to cost nearly $45 million.
Some area residents have voiced concern about such a large development changing the feel of the surrounding neighborhood. A traffic study and light study will be completed by the developer and reviewed by the city before final site approval is granted.
The developer is planning to include a few public amenities into the project with the construction of a trail connecting the new development to Triangle Park and a new small park on Manor Drive. Additionally, most parking at the new development will be underground with two smaller surface lots.
At this time the developer is only allowed to build senior specific housing. If they ever wanted to convert the building to standard apartments they would need to receive approval from the city.
