BLAINE, Minn. (August 8, 2013) — A new highway project is currently in the development phase for the intersection at Highway 65 and 109th Avenue in Blaine. The Anoka County Board has started the process of requesting funding from MnDOT for improvements to the roadway.
As anyone who commutes on Highway 65 knows, this intersection is extremely busy. Part of the construction proposal would make a dedicated right-turn lane available for those driving east on 109th, which would then convert the existing turn lane to only a through lane. This lane change would allow more traffic to pass through the intersection on 109th on each green light.
The county has applied for nearly $300,000 worth of improvements from MnDOT for this intersection.
