BLAINE, Minn. – (Jan. 5, 2017) – The start of 2017 brings several changes to local politics.
In Blaine, two new council members attended their first meetings this week as Julie Jeppson and Andy Garvais were sworn in.
In Centerville, new Mayor Jeff Paar and new council members Matt Montain and Russ Koski took their seats.
In Spring Lake Park, new council member Barbara Goodboe-Bisschoff is ready for her first meeting as a council member. Also in Spring Lake Park, the council has decided to appoint Brad Delfs to the vacant seat after the death of Jeanne Mason last year.
In Lexington, two council members that were elected via write-in votes will join the council in Diane Harris and Mike Murphy.
No changes at the county level this year but a few changes in the state level. Former State Representative Jerry Newton is now a state senator. Newton’s House seat was filled by new Representative Erin Koegel. Blaine also will now be represented in the Minnesota House by Nolan West.
The legislative session in St. Paul started this week and will conclude in late May.
