ANOKA, Minn. – Shawn Eric Lange, 19, is being held in the Anoka County Jail after being charged with malicious punishment of a child. The felony charges stem from an afternoon he spent with his daughter.
According to the criminal complaint, the baby’s great-grandmother took the child to the doctor after she picked the child up from being in her father’s care. The child had a large bruise on her head and was bleeding from the nose. Doctors found that the baby had a fractured skull, and was bleeding from her brain and eyes. They also found that the child was healing from 10 broken ribs, and broken bones in her legs and arm.
Lange gave authorities conflicting accounts of how the injuries happened, while doctors said that the injuries were clinically diagnostic of child abuse. Lange faces two felony counts of malicious punishment of a child, one felony count of domestic assault, and one felony count of first degree assault. His bail has been set at $260,000.
