BLAINE, Minn. – (Sept. 15, 2016) – Local Minnesota House candidate Nolan West found himself embroiled in a controversy this week as several past social media posts came to light.
The post date back as far as 2008 and are as recent as 2015. The post included inflammatory remarks about the LGBT community, African-Americans, and women. Several of the posts had an anti-Lincoln and pro-Confederacy tone.
One post called for a “lynching” just before Barrack Obama’s election in 2008.
West removed the posts this week and told North Metro TV in an email statement, “I apologize for posting insensitive material, I’ve taken those posts down because they do not reflect who I am or what I believe.”
North Metro TV did offer West a chance for an on camera interview to expand on that statement but he did not respond to that request. North Metro TV also contacted the Republican Party of Minnesota but they did not respond. Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin has called on the Minnesota House GOP to pull support for West.
Nolan West is running in district 37B against DFLer Susan Witt, the seat is open after Tim Sanders decided not to run for reelection. He is also the son of Anoka County Commissioner Robyn West. To see snapshots of Nolan West’s social media posts click here.
