“We have, in the past offered life skills training and spiritual growth and we’re working toward affordable housing portion of that,” said Pam Powell with Mom’s Haven for Hope.
Now, Powell says that as a part of providing affordable housing, Mom’s Haven of Hope is planning on building a house– a home in Fridley that will provide space for four mothers and their children.
“The house came as a vision, where especially the first time single mom – that she would be able to have a place where she could live with other moms in her situation. She could go to school and live in an affordable place. She would receive support and encouragement, and community, and have people who were there who would be in her corner.”
Each family will have their own bedroom and bathroom. There will be a shared kitchen and living room. A house resident manager will live in the basement to help out as well.
Powell says they own an empty lot and have blueprints for the home, and hope to be able to break ground as soon as they raise enough money to build the home.
“It’s like its all of sudden becoming reality after all these years of dreaming. To have this part happen is fun to watch,” said Powell.
