BLAINE, Minn. – (Sept. 22, 2016) – The Twin Cities received more than 6 inches of rain this week, with up to 10 inches being reported in one night Maple Grove. The north metro took the brunt of it, and it led to serious flooding. From this scene in Maple Grove on Weaver Lake Road, where the intersection was completely flooded, to these scenes in Spring Lake Park; parks, streets and the Panther football field were all still under water the following day.
Centennial High School had some water inside overnight. Cars were stalled on the Northtown Mall site. The flooding got so bad that parts of Interstate 694 and Highway 169 had to be closed because they could not be driven on safely. The National Weather Service reminded drivers that just 12 inches of water on a road can carry away a small car, and that no one should drive on flooded roads.
