ANOKA, Minn. – (Sept. 19, 2013) – The Northstar Commuter Rail line keeps chugging along as it hit another milestone last month. In August, ridership increased to nearly 3,300 riders per day– an increase of 24 percent over August of last year. In fact, every month in 2013 has produced a new ridership high for that specific month.
Presently in 2013, ridership on Northstar has grown over 16 percent when compared to the same time period last year. Currently the rail line runs from Big Lake to Target Field downtown; however, the Northstar Corridor Development Authority hopes to extend the line from Big Lake to St. Cloud as demand grows.
The line will celebrate its four-year anniversary in November 2013.
