FRIDLEY, Minn. – (Sept. 8, 2016) – Striking for the second time this year, nurses with Allina Health continue to protest what they call unfair labor practices. More than 4 ,000 nurses began their strike on Labor Day, and they say it won’t end until they reach a deal with Allina. Their dispute has been going on for months, and is based on the increasing cost of health insurance that nurses would pay under the new contract.
Both sides said negotiations were nearing an agreement less than one day before the strike began, but then things fell apart. Nurses at Mercy Hospital and Unity Hospital, along with Abbott Northwestern, United, and Phillips Eye Institute will be replaced with temporary nurses during the strike. The hospitals will continue to be open.
