FRIDLEY, Minn. – (June 9, 2016) – 4,800 nurses are set to walk off the job in the first nurses strike since 2010. The Minnesota Nurses Association voted this week to reject a contract offer from Allina Health. Their dispute has been going on for months, and is based on the increasing cost of health insurance that nurses would pay under the new contract.
Following this vote, nurses at Mercy Hospital and Unity Hospital, along with Abbott Northwestern, United and Phillips Eye Institute are set to go on strike. The union has informed Allina that they plan to strike for one week beginning on June 19. Allina has indicated that they plan to use replacement nurses during any strike.
